Ahmedabad, June 2025:
In a shocking twist to the tragic Air India crash near Ahmedabad, it has come to light that the first responder to the disaster was none other than a young student who was having lunch inside a nearby hostel when the plane came down.
The Air India flight, carrying 242 passengers and crew members, crashed close to a residential area on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. Just moments before the crash, the 22-year-old student, identified as Rahul Mehta, was eating his lunch in the hostel dining hall when he heard a deafening noise followed by a massive blast.
“The ground shook like an earthquake. I looked out the window and saw thick black smoke rising just behind our compound,” Rahul told local media.
Without waiting for emergency services, Rahul rushed outside and became the first person on the scene. He helped pull survivors from the burning wreckage and called the authorities. His quick thinking and courage are being hailed as heroic.
Eyewitnesses say Rahul guided multiple injured passengers away from the fire and stayed at the crash site until the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and fire brigades arrived. His actions are believed to have saved at least five lives in the crucial first few minutes after the crash.
The hostel building sustained minor damage due to the shockwaves but fortunately, no students were injured. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, with preliminary reports hinting at technical failure during descent.
Meanwhile, social media is flooded with praise for Rahul Mehta, with hashtags like #RealHero and #FirstResponder trending across platforms.
Authorities are considering honoring him for his bravery and quick response.
